Growing Quality Nursery Stock

Dave Wilson Nursery's production crew maintains the high standards established by Dave Wilson to produce top quality planting stock.

Recognized internationally as a leader among deciduous tree growers, the nursery continually strives to improve its production techniques through innovations in soil management, pest control and record-keeping.

Source materials for the production of Dave Wilson Nursery trees are maintained in approximately one hundred and fifty acres of orchards on the nursery.

Our Prunus rootstock seed and cutting-source trees, as well as our cling peach budwood trees, are held in registered increase blocks certified by the California Department of Food and Agriculture.

We manufacture our own compost at Red Rock Ranch and employ extensive cover-cropping and fallow periods in between nursery crops.

The trees in these blocks as well as all our Prunus budwood orchards are tested for virus annually. The frequent testing of these trees allows us to maintain a clean environment that minimizes the potential for the spread of virus. Source trees other than Prunus, such as our apples, pears and ornamentals, are also maintained on the nursery where they are periodically examined for health, vigor and trueness-to-type. The maintenance of orchards on the nursery and at our Reedley office provides us with the healthy and vigorous plant tissue required to produce the highest quality nursery stock available.

Dave Wilson Nursery trees are truly hand-crafted. From the planting of seed, liners and cuttings, to budding, cutting back, suckering, staking and grading of nursery stock, many of the steps in our production of top quality deciduous trees nursery stock are done the old fashioned way, by hand. Taking advantage of its diverse inventory of Junebuds and yearlings, Dave Wilson Nursery employs a crew of career nurserymen to perform the intricate and painstaking hand work required to meet the exacting standards of our customers.
