In response to a marked increase in orchard grafting of seedlings and orchard trees, Dave Wilson Nursery and Zaiger's Genetics, Inc. have agreed to require a $1.00 royalty surcharge for field grafting of Zaiger tree fruit varieties. However, if the understock to be grafted over is purchased from Dave Wilson Nursery, the topworking will be exempt from the royalty surcharge.
Regardless of the source of the understock, written authorization for all field grafting of proprietary varieties must be obtained from Dave Wilson Nursery before trees are grafted. An additional $1.00 per tree royalty surcharge will apply to grafting done without first obtaining written authorization. Prior authorization is very important, even if the understock is purchased from Dave Wilson Nursery. Prior authorization enables us to keep track of grafting and also gives us a chance to provide growers with up-to-date information concerning variety performance and pollenization requirements.
Royalty surcharges are in addition to standard per tree royalties. Royalty discounts for high density plantings apply only to finished trees purchased from Dave Wilson Nursery or to varieties topworked onto seedlings purchased from Dave Wilson Nursery.
