GARDEN DELICIOUS GENETIC DWARF APPLE Sweet, crisp,
superb flavor, even in hot climates. Greenish-yellow with red blush to

FUJI APPLE Recent introduction from Japan that quickly became
California's favorite apple. Sweet, very crisp and flavorful, excellent

GOLDEN DELICIOUS APPLE (Yellow Delicious) Long-time favorite

GRAVENSTEIN APPLE (Red Gravenstein) Famous for sauce and

RED DELICIOUS APPLE (Bisbee Spur) Sweet, crisp, flavorful -

BLENHEIM (ROYAL) APRICOT All-purpose freestone, sweet,

NUGGET APRICOT Large, flavorful yellow freestone. Attractive
orange skin blushed with red. Ripens mid-June in Central Calif., 1-2

Ontario, California. Introduced in 1956. Estimated chilling requirement
5-600 hours. Self-fruitful.
TOMCOT APRICOT The most consistently productive apricot variety at
Dave Wilson Nursery 1992-97. Large, orange fruit with firm, sweet
flesh. Early harvest, 2-3 weeks before Wenatchee Moorpark. Originated
at Prosser, WA, introduced in 1989. 600 hours. Partly self-fruitful;
biggest crops if cross-pollinated by another apricot. Pat. No. 7034.
BING CHERRY Large, firm, juicy, sweet, nearly black when ripe -
superb flavor, the No. 1 cherry. Mid-season. Large vigorous tree. 700
hours. Poll. by Black Tart, Van, Rainier. Also Stella in colder climates.
BLACK TARTARIAN CHERRY Medium-sized, nearly black, sprightly
flavor, early season. Vigorous, productive tree. 700 hours. Pollenizer
required -interfruitful with all popular sweet cherries.
LAPINS CHERRY New, from Canada. Self-fruitful, dark red sweet
cherry. Large, firm, good flavor. Similar to Van in color, Stella in shape.
Sometimes sold as "Self-fertile Bing." Ripens 4 days after Bing. 500

RAINIER SWEET CHERRY Large, yellow with red blush. Sweet and
flavorful - superior to Royal Ann. Very cold hardy. Mid-season harvest.

STELLA CHERRY Self-fruitful - no pollenizer needed. Large, nearly

ELBERTA PEACH Famous yellow freestone. Classic, rich, peach

FAY (LATE) ELBERTA PEACH Popular yellow freestone: juicy,
moderately sweet, flavorful. Fresh/can/freeze/dry. Ripens 1-2 days later
than Elberta in Central California (August 1st), but blooms earlier. 700

HALEHAVEN PEACH From a cross of J.H. Hale and South Haven.
Medium to large size, skin red over orange-yellow. Yellow freestone
flesh is juicy, sweet, low in acid, with excellent flavor. Mid-season
harvest, about two weeks before Elberta. Dessert/can/freeze. Winter and
frost hardy. 900 hours. Self-fruitful.
J.H. HALE PEACH Old variety, still one of the best. Very large, firm,
superb flavor. Fresh/canned. Ripe August 1st in Central Calif. Excellent
frost hardiness. 800 hours. Another nectarine or peach needed to
pollinate.
NECTAR WHITE PEACH (Original Nectar) One of the finest white
peaches. Medium to large fruit with dark pink blush over a beautiful
cream to pale green background. White freestone flesh, tinged with red, is
sweet with exceptional flavor and aroma. Harvest three weeks before
Elberta. Originated in Bakersfield, Calif., introduced in 1935. 800 hours.
Self-fruitful.
O'HENRY PEACH Popular fresh market yellow freestone now available
for home planting. Large, firm, full red skin, superb flavor. Ripens early
to mid-August in Central Calif. Good for freezing. Strong, vigorous,

STRAWBERRY FREE WHITE PEACH Long-time favorite white

SUNCREST PEACH Large, very firm, fine-flavored, yellow freestone.
Bright red skin over yellow. Suncrest is the peach immortalized by the

HALFORD CLING PEACH Large yellow canning cling, the leading
commercial variety. Very good quality. Productive. Early September in
Central California. 800 hours. Self-fruitful.
BARTLETT PEAR World's most popular pear. Early mid-season, high
quality, tolerates hot summers. 800 hours. Self-fruitful in most climates
of Western U.S. Elsewhere, pollinated by Bosc, D'Anjou, Winter Nelis.
HARROW DELIGHT PEAR Fireblight-resistant, with fruit similar to
Bartlett. Yellow skin with attractive red blush. Smooth, fine flesh is
especially flavorful. Ripe two weeks before Bartlett. Heavy-bearing tree.
Introduced in 1982 (Ontario, Canada). 800 hours. Interfruitful with
Bartlett, Bosc, D'Anjou and Moonglow.
20TH CENTURY ASIAN PEAR (Nijisseiki, "Apple Pear") Juicy,
sweet, mild-flavored fruit is crisp like apple. Early to mid-August in
Central Calif. Keeps well. Easy to grow, heavy bearing small tree. 450
hours. Self-fruitful or poll. by Shinseiki, Bartlett, or other.
SHINSEIKI ASIAN PEAR Juicy, sweet, refreshing, crisp like an apple.
Easy to grow. Keeps well. Harvest late July/early August in Central
Calif. Bright yellow skin. Vigorous, heavy bearing (usually by 2nd year).
350-450 hours. Self-fruitful.
FUYU PERSIMMON - JIRO ("Apple Persimmon") Medium size, flat
shape, still hard when ripe, non-astringent. Cool or hot climate. Hardy,
attractive tree, practically pest free. Fall harvest. 200 hours. Self-
fruitful.
HACHIYA PERSIMMON Large, deep orange-red, acorn-shaped. Hot
summer required to mature the fruit. Sweet, flavorful, astringent til
soft-ripe. Mature fruit can be frozen and thawed to ripen. Productive,
ornamental. 200 hours. Self-fruitful.
IZU PERSIMMON Very sweet, tasty, non-astringent fruit ripens about
three weeks before Fuyu. Medium to large size, round shape. Relatively
small tree, good choice for backyard persimmon. Sometimes difficult to
start from bareroot. 100 hours. Self-fruitful.
ELEPHANT HEART PLUM Home-orchard favorite - large,
heart-shaped fruit with sweet, juicy, richly flavored, firm red flesh. Dark
reddish-purple mottled skin. Long harvest season - September in Central
Calif. Hardy, heavy bearing. 500 hours. Pollinate with Beauty or Santa
Rosa.
EMERALD BEAUT PLUM One of the highest-rated plums in blind
fruit tastings at Dave Wilson Nursery. Light green skin, greenish-yellow
to orange freestone flesh. Harvest begins late August in Central Calif.
Ripe fruit continues to sweeten, becoming exceptionally sweet, but
remaining crisp and crunchy. Ripe fruit holds on tree longer than any

NUBIANA PLUM Purplish-black skin, amber flesh. Large, firm,

SANTA ROSA PLUM Most popular plum in California & Arizona.
Juicy, tangy, flavorful. Reddish-purple skin, amber flesh tinged red. Late

SATSUMA PLUM Long-time favorite plum in California. Mottled
maroon over green skin, dark red meaty flesh. Sweet, mild, not tart.

SWEET POMEGRANATE Sweeter fruit than Wonderful, more widely
adapted (better quality in cool-summer climates). Small, glossy-leafed,

O'NEAL BLUEBERRY Southern Highbush (low chill req., tolerates

BRADFORD FLOWERING PEAR Pyrus calleryana ‘Bradford’ One of
the most popular ornamental deciduous trees. Snow-white bloom in
spring. Attractive glossy foliage turns red in fall. Moderately upright
growth to 40 ft. or more.
KRAUTER VESUVIUS FLOWERING PLUM Dark purple leaves, light
pink blossoms, little or no fruit. Relatively small tree, 18' high, 12' wide.
Favorite purple-leaf plum for California. Foliage of newly planted trees
sometimes greenish til vigorous growth begins.
RAYWOOD ASH - Fraxinus oxycarpa `Raywoodi' Fast-growing,
tolerates heat, cold, alkaline soil. Compact, round-headed. Small,
delicate leaves, lacy appearance. Purplish-red fall color. No seeds.

JACQUEMONTI BIRCH - Betula jacquemontii Whitest bark of all
birches. Upright, narrow growth to 50'x30'. Dark green, leathery leaves.
Needs ample water, regular feeding. Sunset zones 3-11, 14-17
FLAMINGO BOX ELDER - Acer negundo `Flamingo' Smaller, more
desirable than the species. Traditional maple-shaped canopy, sharply
contrasting green and white variegated leaves tinged with pink - a striking
accent tree for the landscape. Likes water, good lawn tree. Grows to 30
ft. or more. Sunset zones 1-10, 12-24.
BURGUNDY DESERT WILLOW - Chilopsis linearis ‘Burgundy’
Small tree grows moderately fast to 20 ft. Long narrow leaves, distinctive
crooked trunks with shaggy bark. Open growing, casts light shade.
Attractive, large, trumpet-shaped, fragrant, reddish-purple flowers attract
hummingbirds. Long flowering season, spring to fall. Sunset zones
11-13, 18-21.
PINK DAWN CHITALPA - X Chitalpa tashkentensis 'Pink Dawn'
(Catalpa x Chilopsis) Very fast-growing, relatively small single or
multi-trunked tree, reaches approximately 20 ft. x 20 ft. Very drought
tolerant. Large clusters of trumpet-shaped flowers in summer are pale
purplish-pink with pale yellow throat. Long, narrow, attractive, glossy
green leaves. Hybridized in Russia. Adapted to Southern Calif. and low
desert climates of the southwestern U.S.
DRAKE EVERGREEN (CHINESE) ELM - Ulmus parvifolia `Drake'
Deciduous in cold climates, evergreen elsewhere. Very fast growth to 50
ft. Long arching/weeping limbs, tree wider than tall. Virtually
pest/disease- free. Sunset zones 8-9, 12-24.
CHINESE HACKBERRY - Celtis sinensis Deciduous shade tree,
similar to Elm, but smaller. Glossy, scallop-toothed, dark green leaves.
Deep- rooted, tolerates heat, wind, drought, alkaline soil. 30-40 ft.,
spreading growth habit. Sunset zones 8-16, 18-20.
FRISIA LOCUST - Robinia psudoacacia `Frisia’ New growth is yellow
to orange in color. Fast growing tree to 40 ft. with redish brown bark and
thorns on the smaller wood. Widely adapted, suitable for climates with
extreme heat or cold, poor soils, and drought.
PURPLE ROBE LOCUST - Robinia idahoensis `Purple Robe' Shapely
deciduous tree to 40 ft. Tolerates heat/cold/poor soil/drought. Small
leaflets, reddish new growth. Large, purplish-pink showy flowers,
prolonged bloom. Deep watering recommended. All zones.
BLOODGOOD LONDON PLANE - Platanus acerfolia `Bloodgood'
Fast-growing deciduous tree to 80 ft. Large maplelike leaves, distinctive
patchy bark pattern. Resists anthracnose, tolerates smog. Very desirable
for street, park, and lawn plantings. Sunset zones 2-24.
AUTUMN BLAZE® MAPLE - Acer freemanii New hybrid of silver
maple and red maple. Has charater and fall color similar to red maple with
adaptability comparable to silver maple. Dense oval shaped canopy.

OCTOBER GLORY MAPLE - Acer rubrum `October Glory' Nearly
round canopy, glossy green foliage. Better suited to mild winter/hot
summer climates than other red maples. Showy red fall color. Ample soil
moisture required. Reaches 40 ft. x 35 ft. Sunset zones 1-9, 14-17.
SILVER MAPLE - Acer saccharinum 40-100 ft.tall, equal spread.
Attractive, open form. Red, orange & yellow fall colors in cold climate.
Main limbs are strongest if wide angled. Not tolerant of alkaline soil,
drought. Sunset zones 1-9, 14-24.
FRUITLESS MULBERRY - Morus alba `Fruitless' Fast-growing, to 40
x 50 ft., dense shade. Tolerates summer heat, alkaline soil. Drought
tolerant, but best with ample water and feeding. Not necessary to prune
back to trunk each winter. All zones.
MEXICAN REDBUD - Cercis canadensis mexicana Profuse
pinkish-purple flowers in spring. Glossy, scalloped, blue-green leaves.
Tolerates hot summers. Smaller than other redbuds, to 15-20 ft. Sunset
zones 4-24.
OKLAHOMA REDBUD - Cercis canadensis `Oklahoma' Spectacular
purplish-red flower clusters in early spring (after flowering plums, before
flowering crabapples). Attractive tree with round-shaped canopy and
glossy, heart-shaped leaves. Tolerates hot summers. Largest of the
redbuds, to 30-35 ft. Sunset zones 1-3, 7-20.
WESTERN REDBUD - Cercis occidentalis Multi-trunked tree to 15 'x
15. Spectacular bright purplish-pink sweet pea-shaped flowers. Yellow
to red fall color. Drought tolerant, resistant to oak root fungus. Sunset
zones 2-24.
WEEPING WILLOW - Salix babylonica Fast-growing, cold hardy,
short dormant period. Long narrow leaves, pronounced weeping growth
habit. Needs plenty of water. Stake high to develop usable area
underneath. 30 x 30 ft. or larger.
COMMON LILAC - Syringa vulgaris Large showy clusters of pink to
purplish-blue flowers, wonderful fragrance. Full sun (light shade in
hottest areas), alkaline soil. Grows to 20 ft. x 20 ft. Best in Sunset zones
1-12. Less dependable in zones 14-16, 18-22.
DOUBLE PURPLE WISTERIA (Double Purple) Deciduous,
fast-growing vine. Bears full double purple flowers like little pom poms.
Full sun, little summer watering when well established.
