GOLD KIST APRICOT Excellent backyard apricot for warm winter
climates. Freestone, very good quality. Heavy bearing. Early harvest,
3-4 weeks before Blenheim (Royal). 300 hours. Self-fruitful.
DESERT GOLD PEACH Very early: May in So.Calif./Ariz.
Tree-ripened fruit has good flavor and sweetness for such an early variety.
Yellow clingstone. Heavy bearing. 250 hours. Self-fruitful.
FLORDAPRINCE PEACH From Florida, successfully grown in
Southern California/Arizona. Larger fruit than Desert Gold, more tolerant
of desert heat, better flavor. Semi-freestone when soft-ripe. Ripens early
May in warm areas. 150 hours. Self-fruitful.
RED BARON PEACH Flowering/fruiting. Large, juicy, firm, richly
flavored yellow freestone fruit. Showy double red blossoms. Mid-July.
Long-time favorite in Southern California. Low chilling requirement,
250-300 hours. Self-fruitful. Pat. No. 4195.
TROPIC SNOW WHITE PEACH Delicious white freestone for
warm-winter climates -balanced acid and sugar, superb flavor. Harvest
begins mid-June in Central California, about three weeks before Babcock.
Showy blossoms in spring. From Florida, introduced in 1988. Very low
winter chilling requirement, about 200 hours. Self-fruitful.
KIEFFER PEAR Medium to large late season fruit. Canning/cooking.
Sprightly flavor, coarse texture. Resists fireblight, tolerates hot climates.
Dependable crops. 350 hours. Self-fruitful.
20TH CENTURY ASIAN PEAR (Nijisseiki, "Apple Pear") Juicy,
sweet, mild-flavored fruit is crisp like apple. Early to mid-August in
Central Calif. Keeps well. Easy to grow, heavy bearing small tree. 450
hours. Self-fruitful or poll. by Shinseiki, Bartlett, or other.
FLAVOR DELIGHT APRIUM® INTERSPECIFIC Apricot-plum
hybrid. Resembles an apricot but with a distinctive flavor and texture all
its own. High taste-test scores - one of the most flavorful early season
fruits. Early June. Very low chilling requirement. Less than 300 hours.
Self-fruitful, but biggest crops if pollinated by any apricot. Pat. No. 7090.

CLEVELAND SELECT FLOWERING PEAR - Pyrus calleryana
`Cleveland Select' Pyramidal shape, grows to 25-30 ft. by 12-15 ft. Pure
white blossoms. Glossy green, leathery foliage. Fall colors orange-red to
purplish red. Apparently identical to `Chanticleer.' Sunset zones 2-9,
14-21.
KRAUTER VESUVIUS FLOWERING PLUM Dark purple leaves, light
pink blossoms, little or no fruit. Relatively small tree, 18' high, 12' wide.
Favorite purple-leaf plum for California. Foliage of newly planted trees
sometimes greenish til vigorous growth begins.
THUNDERCLOUD FLOWERING PLUM Abundant, light pink to white
flowers, dark purple leaves. Sometimes has small fruits suitable for
jam/jelly. Rounded shape to 20 ft. high x 20 ft. wide.
FAN TEX™ ASH - Fraxinus velutina `Fan Tex™' Superior selection of
Arizona ash. Large dark green leaves, symmetrical canopy, fast growing,
seedless. Good tree for southwestern desert climates. Budded onto
seedling Arizona ash.
QUAKING ASPEN - Populus tremuloides Very distinctive tree - light
green round leaves flutter and shimmer in the slightest breeze. Fast
growing to 40-60 ft. Smooth bark, light grayish green to whitish. Bright
yellow fall color. Sunset zones 1-7.
PURPLE ROBE LOCUST - Robinia idahoensis `Purple Robe' Shapely
deciduous tree to 40 ft. Tolerates heat/cold/poor soil/drought. Small
leaflets, reddish new growth. Large, purplish-pink showy flowers,
prolonged bloom. Deep watering recommended. All zones.
RED OAK - Quercus rubra Large, slow-growing, round-topped tree to
90 ft. Deciduous. Large leaves, fall color is red to reddish-brown or
brown, sometimes orange. Needs fertile soil and ample water. Deep root
system. Sunset zones 1-12, 14-24.
PURPLE SMOKE TREE - Cotinus coggygria `atropurpurea' Purple
foliage, rich purple "smoke": hazy-appearing clusters of fuzzy, purple
flower stalks. Multi-trunked shrub or small tree to 20 ft. x 20 ft. Likes
cold, needs good drainage, resists oak root fungus. All zones.
PAKISTAN FRUITING MULBERRY Long (3 inches), firm, red to
black, sweet syncarpous (like a blackberry) fruit. Non-staining juice.
Month-long early summer harvest. Fruit used fresh and for pies, jams and
jellies. Large, vigorous, disease-resistant tree.
