Understanding the winter cold ("chilling") requirement for deciduous fruit trees and how to apply it can be confusing. Essentially it's very simple: most deciduous fruit trees require some amount of winter cold to bloom and fruit normally - and some need more than others. But the calculation of chilling and determination of each variety's chilling requirement is not so simple. Our new paper describes some of the issues involved.
